The final chapter
In the last installment we told you how well Precious seemed to be doing. Unfortunately over the last few days she started to take a turn for the worse, and eventually stopped eating completely. Fiona, our vet, saw Precious at the centre on Monday morning and decided that she should be taken to the surgery for further tests that afternoon. We dropped Precious off soon after, not knowing what the outcome would be.
Later that afternoon we received a call to say that Precious was ready to collect, along with her long list of new medications. Whilst at the surgery, a further blood test was taken which revealed that Precious was anaemic, and possibly had Lymphoma. The various medications we were given for her were an appetite stimulant, an antibiotic, and two liquid suspensions to try and settle her stomach in the hope that she would start to eat again. She had her first appetite stimulant that evening.
When we arrived in the morning we were dismayed to find that she had not eaten anything over night, and it was clear that her illness had defeated her. The decision was made that it would be kinder that Precious was put to sleep. She went really peacefully, and we will all miss her.
